Best Wiki Text Editor for Windows and Linux

zim wiki editor for windows

One of the applications that I use daily for my Linux Admin work is Zim, the Best Wiki Text Editor for Windows and Linux. It was a recommendation made from a friend for taking notes.

Before Zim I was using Notepad++ or just simple txt files. But it lacks of many of the great options that Zim has, so I got in love at the first sight and never looked back.

About Zim a desktop Wiki

Zim is a graphical text editor used to maintain a collection of wiki pages. Each page can contain links to other pages, simple formatting and images.

It is a much better Notepad++ alternative for taking proper documentation and searching trough it.

Zim Wiki can be used to:

  • Keep an archive of notes.
  • Keep a daily or weekly journal.
  • Search inside the notes.
  • Organize task lists.
  • Draft blog entries and emails.
  • Do brainstorming.

One of the best features is the autosaving of your notes. Because of the autosave feature, you can switch between pages and follow links while editing without worries.

As you can see, the interface is pretty clean and intuitive. You wont need much time to become a Zim Wiki master in taking notes.

Install of Zim Text Editor

It is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, just follow the install procedure from the official site by clicking on this Zim download link. It’s pretty straight forward.

I believe is important for any System Admin to have their notes organized. Even with a good memory, the written word last forever.

By far, Zim is the Best Wiki Text Editor for Windows and Linux systems available today.
